CoreFX for Grand Theft Auto V — End User Licence Agreement

Licence version 2.1 — effective 1 September 2026

Applies to CoreFX builds released on or after this date. Earlier builds keep the terms they shipped with.

CoreFX for Grand Theft Auto V is a visual overhaul for the game, built by the βeta community and published by CRXHVRD (CoreFX Dev). Most of it is free; some Builds and all Addons are released through a paid Patreon tier (section 2). Installing or using it means you accept the terms below.

The words "for Grand Theft Auto V" identify the game this software works with, and nothing more. See section 6.

This is the same LICENSE.md that ships inside every CoreFX archive. Open the original file. See also the third-party notices and the authorised partners.

Contents

1. What the words mean

  • CoreFX / the Software — CoreFX for Grand Theft Auto V: the archive you downloaded and everything in it — installers, .oiv and .oivs packages, shaders, textures, weather and timecycle data, configuration files, presets and documentation, along with any update or hotfix to them. "CoreFX" on its own is used throughout this document as shorthand for the full product name.
  • The GameGrand Theft Auto V, published by Rockstar Games. The Game is not part of CoreFX and is not distributed with it.
  • Build — one packaged edition of CoreFX, for a particular version of the Game and a particular platform.
  • Supporter Build — a Build released through a paid Patreon tier rather than the free one. Which Builds these are is stated where each Build is published.
  • Addons — optional extra packages, including SE Addons, offered to supporters on Patreon.
  • Third-Party Components — software included in the archive that CoreFX did not create. These are listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md and are governed by their own licences, not by this one.
  • We / us — CRXHVRD (CoreFX Dev) and the contributors who build CoreFX.
  • You — the person installing or using CoreFX.

2. What you may do

Where CoreFX comes from. CoreFX is distributed only through the CoreFX Patreon page and through links we publish at https://corefx.me. Getting it means joining the CoreFX Patreon, and which tier you need depends on what you are downloading:

  • Most Builds are on the free tier and cost nothing.
  • Some specific Builds are Supporter Builds, released through a paid tier instead. Any paid tier reaches them — there is no particular tier you must be on — unless the post says otherwise.
  • Addons require the corresponding paid tier, which may be a specific one.

Which tier a Build needs is stated where that Build is published. Whether a Build is a Supporter Build is our choice at release and can differ from one Build to the next. Download links appear nowhere else, and no other source is authorised.

A copy obtained from anywhere else is not licensed to you — not a reupload, not a modpack, not a file passed along by someone else, whatever you were or were not charged for it. Delete it and get it from us, where most of what we release costs nothing. The one exception is a product published by an authorised partner under section 3.2, which comes with that partner's own licence.

Provided you have a copy from an authorised source, we grant you a personal, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive and revocable licence to:

  1. Install and use CoreFX on any device you own or control, for as long as you like.
  2. Create content with it — screenshots, video, livestreams, films and cinematics — and monetise that content freely, on any platform. No permission needed and no revenue share. CoreFX came out of the GTA V moviemaking scene; making things with it is the point. A credit is appreciated, never required.
  3. Adjust it for your own use — edit configuration files, change settings in the RenoDX or ReShade menus, enable or remove optional packages, and modify shaders on your own installation.
  4. Run it on a server you operate. If you run a FiveM server, you may distribute the CoreFX ServerSide package to players connecting to that server, as part of that server's resources. This permission covers your own server only; it is not a general right to redistribute.

3. What you may not do

  1. Do not redistribute it. Do not reupload, mirror, re-host or otherwise publish CoreFX or any part of it, in whole or modified, on any site, file host, mod portal, Discord, torrent or storage service. To share CoreFX, link to the Patreon page or to https://corefx.me.
  2. Do not pass on the download links. The storage links in our Patreon posts are for the person who received them. Do not repost, forward or publish them, and do not publish archive passwords or any other means of reaching the files. That a link happens to work without signing in does not make it public property: how we store a file is not a licence to spread it, and nothing about a file being reachable grants anyone the right to copy or share it.
  3. Do not sell it, put it behind your own paywall, bundle it with a paid product or service, or accept payment for supplying it. This includes selling servers, modpacks or "optimised builds" that contain CoreFX.
  4. Do not include it in a modpack or compilation without our written permission.
  5. Do not strip the branding. Do not remove or alter credits, licence files, in-game watermarks or attribution, and do not present CoreFX or a derivative of it as your own work or under another name. The sole exception is an authorised partner acting under section 3.2.
  6. Do not imply endorsement. Do not use the CoreFX or βeta names, logos or screenshots to suggest that we endorse, sponsor or are affiliated with your project, server or product.
  7. Do not extract and republish its parts. Shaders, textures, weather and timecycle data and other assets from CoreFX may not be redistributed or reused in another mod, product or release without permission — whether taken directly, unpacked, decrypted or reconstructed.

Clause 3.7 restricts redistribution, not curiosity. Nothing in this licence limits any right you have under applicable law that cannot be contracted away, including any statutory right to decompile software for interoperability. If you find something interesting in how CoreFX works, we would rather you came and talked to us in the Discord.

3.1 Enforcement

CoreFX is protected by copyright. Where a copy is distributed in breach of section 3, we may act on it — including by sending takedown notices to the site, platform, host or service carrying it, and by asking that the material be removed.

This applies to the material itself: the files, the archives, the download links, and any mod, package, modpack or server resource that contains CoreFX work without permission. It applies wherever that material sits, including mod portals, file hosts, Discord servers, storage services and links posted in video descriptions, posts or comments.

Ordinary content about CoreFX is not affected. Videos, screenshots, streams, reviews, comparisons and tutorials are covered by section 2.2 and are welcome, including critical ones and including monetised ones. Showing CoreFX is not distributing it. What draws a notice is supplying the files, or pointing people at a copy that should not exist.

If you have posted something that turns out to contain or link to material you did not have the right to share, write to us before it becomes a formal matter. We would rather fix it with a message.

3.2 Authorised partners

Section 3 binds you. It does not bind everyone: we separately license selected partners to distribute CoreFX, in whole or in part, under their own product names. Those arrangements are negotiated individually, may be exclusive, and are the only circumstances in which CoreFX appears legitimately under a name other than ours.

  1. A partner product is not a leak. If you find CoreFX technology inside a product published by an authorised partner, it is there with our agreement. The current list of authorised partners and their products is published at https://corefx.me.
  2. Partner products have their own terms. If you obtained CoreFX as part of a partner's product, that product is governed by that partner's licence, and their terms — not this one — decide what you may do with it. This licence governs the copies we distribute ourselves.
  3. Nobody else may assume permission. Being a server owner, a mod author, a large community or a paying customer does not create a right to rebrand or redistribute CoreFX. Partnerships are granted in writing, by us, or they do not exist. Ask: crxhvrd@proton.me.

4. Supporter tiers, Supporter Builds and Addons

Two things reach you through a paid Patreon tier: Supporter Builds, and Addons such as SE Addons. Addons extend CoreFX and are licensed as part of it — they are not separate software and carry no separate terms. A Supporter Build is ordinary CoreFX, released through a paid tier rather than the free one.

This section covers both. "The tier" below means whichever tier gave you access.

  1. Everything in sections 2 and 3 applies to Supporter Builds and Addons as well.
  2. Do not pass them on to people outside the tier, in any form. This is the one restriction that keeps the tier viable, and it is the one we will act on.
  3. What you downloaded stays yours. If your subscription ends you may keep using the versions you already received; you simply stop receiving new ones.
  4. Addons are work in progress by nature and may change, break or be withdrawn between versions. Some are experiments that will never be finished.
  5. Payments are handled by Patreon and are subject to Patreon's terms, including its refund policy. Supporting the project is a contribution to its development, not a purchase of a guaranteed feature.
  6. Sharing them outside the tier ends your access. The tier runs on a small group of people who do not leak, and access to it is at our discretion.

5. Third-party components

CoreFX ships alongside software written by other people — ReShade, the RenoDX shader loader, the OIV Package Installer and others. Each is listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md with its own licence and copyright notice.

Those licences govern those components. Where a third-party licence gives you more freedom than this one does, its terms win for that component. Nothing here restricts your rights under them.

6. Relationship to Grand Theft Auto V

  1. CoreFX is an unofficial fan modification. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. or any of their subsidiaries.
  2. Trademarks. Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto V, GTA V and Rockstar Games are trademarks of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. and its subsidiaries. All related names, logos and game assets are the property of their respective owners. CoreFX claims no ownership of, and no rights in, any of them.
  3. About the name. "CoreFX for Grand Theft Auto V" uses the name of the Game only to identify the game this software is made for, and to distinguish this product from unrelated software also called CoreFX. It is a statement of compatibility, not of origin, sponsorship or endorsement. CoreFX does not use Rockstar Games' or Take-Two's logos, stylised logotypes or artwork, and does not present itself as an official product.
  4. CoreFX requires a legitimate copy of the Game. It is not licensed for use with pirated copies, and no part of the Game is distributed with it.
  5. Using CoreFX does not exempt you from the Game's own terms. Do not use CoreFX in GTA Online, or on any platform or server where modifications are not permitted. You are responsible for the consequences if you do.
  6. CoreFX is a visual modification. It is not designed to provide, and must not be used to seek, any competitive advantage in multiplayer.

7. Ownership

CoreFX is licensed, not sold. All rights in it that are not expressly granted above are reserved. Copyright in CoreFX belongs to CRXHVRD (CoreFX Dev) and its contributors. This licence transfers no ownership to you.

8. No warranty

CoreFX is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

It modifies game files and graphics drivers' behaviour. It may conflict with other mods, fail after a game update, or not work on your hardware. Back up your game files before installing. You use it at your own risk.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use CoreFX — including lost data, corrupted game installations, hardware issues, lost time, or any action taken against your game account by a platform, server or publisher.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Term and termination

This licence runs until terminated. It ends automatically if you breach it. On termination you must stop using CoreFX and delete your copies. Sections 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 survive termination.

11. Changes to this licence

We may publish new versions of this licence. Changes are not retroactive: a new version applies only to CoreFX builds released after it, and the copy you already have keeps the terms it shipped with. The current version is always available at https://corefx.me.

12. Severability

If any part of this licence is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
